Summary
STAGE
SIX – Bandar Penawar to Kuala Rompin (182.8km)
After leaving Bandar
Penawar, the peloton will pass through Mawai – which locals
believe was named after Mawas, the name given to a legendary
large long-haired ape-like creature. Local legends aside, the
peloton will have to prepare for a tough stage as they face
the third longest stage of the tour.
As they embark on the long stage, the tour will snake through
the edges of several forest reserves – the Labis Forest
Reserve, Endau Mas Forest Reserve (Johor) and Lesong Forest
Reserve (Pahang) where a Category 4 climb will slow the riders
down. The pace will pick up before Felda Pulai for the first
sprint of the day.
Further sprints in Mersing - the main ferry point for trips
to the island resort of Tioman – and Endau will provide
the opportunity for breakaways and perhaps surprise finishers
at the podium.
The tour will pass Tanjong Gemok or the "Fat Cape"
for the first time but it will be a smooth ride as at least
a quarter of the stage is flat through coastal roads. This will
set the stage for a storming finish in Rompin.
