Summary
STAGE
ONE - Alor Star to Kepala Batas (182.6km)
Alor Star, last
visited in 2001, provides a stunning backdrop for the flag-off
of LTdL 2008. With its majestic royal palace, heritage buildings,
museums and cultural centres, this stage will surely be a memorable
start for what will be the second longest state in this year's
Tour.
From the picturesque Masjid Zahir - considered to be one of
the most beautiful mosques in Malaysia since opening in 1912
– the peloton will head upwards to Jitra and on to Kangar,
the capital of the northernmost state in the peninsula. Kangar
will host the very first sprint of the tour.
The Tour then swings southwards to Air Hitam, known for its
rows and rows of sundry shops selling anything under the sun,
before arriving in Mergong for the second sprint.
After going past the town of Kota Sarang Semut, the peloton
will face the third sprint in Gurun. Moving past Sungai Petani
– the second largest town in Kedah and the location of
a Water and Land Theme Park – the Tour will finally wind
down in Kepala Batas.
