Team Type 1 Rely On Impressive
Array Of Arsenals At LTdL
Bernama, 6/2/2008
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 (Bernama) --
Despite its maiden foray in the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) race,
the United States-registered team, 'Team Type 1', is banking on
its impressive array of arsenals to mount its challenge.
The annual nine-day cycling race
series begins on Feb 9.
In a statement here today, LTdL's
organiser said the team would not be short on experience, considering
it was under the guidance of its director, Edward Beamon.
Previously, Beamon charted the
course for team, Navigators-Insurance in the 2005 LTdL, it said.
'Team Type 1' will also be powered
by several riders who had previously been part of Asia's biggest
cycling tour.
Beamon has listed 30-year-old Matthew
Wilson from Australia as the team captain.
Wilson previously rode for ProTour
team Unibet.com last year, and Francaise des Jeux, chalking up
seven professional wins, so far.
For this year's tour, Wilson will
be assisted by Glen Chadwick, Moises Aldape, Ben Brooks, Fabio
Calabria and Ian MacGregor, with each rider bringing vast experiences
for the team after having been exposed to races in Europe and
Asia.
"We are all anxious to demonstrate
just what this team is capable of, especially when we will be
part of an important race like Le Tour de Langkawi and in front
of a large number of spectators which the Tour draws every year.
"Wilson has been in good form
in the early season, and we all expect him to be a lot more aggressive
and competitive in every stage.
"We want him to win at least
one or two stages, with the aim of one of the riders completing
the tour in the podium.
"But having said that, we
realise that LTdL is a very competitive cycling race and it will
be a hard tour, no doubt," said Beamon.
