| Remarks on Le Tour de Langkawi
2008 Revised Route
First of all let me take this opportunity
to congratulate YB Datuk Seri Minister of Youth and Sports for
a very heart warming and successful event , the first for 2008
in recognising the achievements of our athletes in the recent
SEA Games at the Putrajaya Convention Centre which was attended
by the Prime Minister and all the Cabinet Ministers on the 2nd
of January, 2008.
It is a very good beginning for sports
in 2008 and we hope to progress further by having a successful
Le Tour de Langkawi.
The routes for the Le Tour of Langkawi
2008 scheduled for February 9 to February 17th have been revised
after due consultation with Teams, Sponsors and also taking
into account response from the media and public at large.
Our Technical Team responded very positively
and were able to draw up the revised routes within a short time
to satisfy the sporting criteria as well as taking into account
the issues raised.
Stage 1 will start in Alor Setar and finish
in Kepala Batas, Our Prime Minister’s constituency instead
of Kulim. Since it is on a weekend, we foresee a good carnival
at Bertam.
Stage 2 will end in Sitiawan from Butterworth
and Stage 3 will end in Banting after starting from Sitiawan.
Stage 4 will be from Port Dickson to Batu Pahat. Stage 5 will
be from Johor Bharu to Bandar Penawar and Stage 6 will be from
Bandar Penawar to Rompin. Stage 7 will be from Rompin to Kuantan.
In the original list of routes, the second
stage was the King of the Mountain stage from Tapah to Genting
Hinglands. The KOM will now be back to its traditional penultimate
leg of the championships but will start from Maran.
Stage 9 is reverted back to the Kuala
Lumpur Criterium when originally it was a stage starting from
Seremban and finishing in Dataran Merdeka.
These new routes are very well accepted
by all parties and better for the riders because it will involve
less transfers and the KOM is at the second last stage.
These new routes will also be
able to showcase our beautiful beaches and seaside sceneries
on the west and also east coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
