RIDE FOR CYCLING ENTHUSIASTS

LUMPUR - Organizer of Le Tour de Langkawi hopes to spark interests
and encourage people to venture into cycling through events
like KL RIDE or "Kayuhan KL” which is organized
in conjunction with Le Tour de Langkawi 2010 on the 1st February
2010 will be held at Dataran Merdeka in concurrence with Federal
Territory Day.
In
line with the organizer’s wishes, the Ministry of Youth
and Sports who want to see national riders emerge as LTDL
champions one day, Ministry of Youth and Sports is taking
steps to organize KL Ride in hope that people will be drawn
closer to the sport of cycling.

Ride 2010 will be held on 1st February with a distance of
10 km covering the main roads around Kuala Lumpur. The ride
starts and ends at Dataran Merdeka.

Ride organized for the first time this year as one of the
activities to promote LTDL also serves as a platform to create
awareness of LTDL, KL Ride is also seen as a channel that
can be used to encourage young people to venture into cycling.

Ride 2010 is expected to attract more participation with 500
participants expected to turn up. In addition participants
will also get the chance to win lucky draw prizes on that
day.

2010 Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed bin Salleh said "participation
is open to all groups with no age limit. From professional
cyclist until the casual cyclist, all eligible to participate
in the event jointly organized by KBS and LTDL 2010 sponsors.
"
"We
hope to increase the number of riders at the junior level.
Early interest is vital and events like this can be used to
cultivate their interest. We hope people realize the potential
of cycling and its health benefits. We invite anyone with
a bicycle to participate. Participation is free and is open
to all levels of society," He added.

Ride is indeed unique and events such as this are often held
in Europe which has a long tradition of recreational cycling.
"KL Ride is not a competition; it is more of a casual
ride with no winner or prize. Riders will ride according to
their ability levels and the roads will be monitored by the
traffic police, "said Jamaludin Mahmood, LTDL 2010 Techincal
Director.
The
event starts at 8.30 am, those interested in participating
KL Ride should register at 7.30 am at Dataran Merdeka on 1st
February 2010, or contact the LTDL 2010 Secretariat at 03

The
15th edition of the UCI (Hors Category) stage race will take
place from Kota Bharu - Kuala Berang (174.5km); Kuala Terengganu
- Chukai (182.3km); Pekan - Mersing (145.6km); Mersin-Parit
Sulong (163.5km); Muar - Port Dickson (116.9km) Putrajaya
- Genting Highlands (102.8km) and Kuala Kubu Baru - Dataran
Merdeka (133.7km), covering a total distance of 1019.3km.
A
total of 120 riders from 20 teams including two local teams
are expected to take part in the event, Le Tour de Langkawi
2010.
