Hot Weather Poses A Challenge To LTdL Racers
19/02/2010, BERNAMA
KUALA
LUMPUR, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- The current hot weather will not
pose an obstacle to riders in the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL)
but will provide a challenge to those participating in the
prestigious cycling event in Asia.
"We
have actually expected the hot weather. I don't see it as
an obstacle, on the contrary, it will provide a challenge
to all the riders.
"Most
of the riders are not first-timers in the LTdL or any other
cycling race in this country," said LTdL chief operating
officer (COO) Mohamed Salleh.
According
to a report of the Malaysian Meteorological Department recently,
the hot weather that has reached 36 degrees Celsius prevailing
in the country since January is a normal phenomenon and is
expected to end in March.
Mohamed
disclosed this at a press conference after receiving sponsorship
from Permanis Sandilands Sdn Bhd (Permanis) at the LTdL 2010
Secretariat, the National Aquatic Centre in Bukit Jalil, here
Friday.
For
the 15th edition of the LTdL from March 1 to 7, Permanis will
sponsor 2,500 cartons of mineral water and 1,300 cartons of
the energy drink, Gatorade, estimated to be worth about RM125,000.
A
total of 120 riders from 20 teams including two local teams
will take part in the race.
