Twenty Teams Fixed For Le Tour De Langkawi

KUALA
LUMPUR, Feb 17 (Bernama) -- The 2010 15th edition of the Le
Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) will witness a competition of 20 teams
over the period of March 1-7.
2010 LTdL
technical director, Jamaludin Mahmood said four more teams
will be announced soon in the near future to complete the
list of 20 teams competing.
This list
included the replacement of two professional teams, namely
Astan (Kazakhstan) and Caisse D'Epargne (Spain) who had confirmed
their pulling-out two weeks ago, he told Bernama here Wednesday.
Jamaludin
said his organisation will choose a pro-status for the purpose.
"Many
of the pro-tour teams had been qualified for the three races
in Europe in March, including for the Paris-Nice (France)
and Tirreno-Adriato (Italian) races," he said.
Jamaludin
also rejected the notion that the LTdL this year would loose
its pull for a pro-tour team, namely the Footon Servetto team
from Spain
"If
we look at the past, it is just not pro-tour teams that win
races but also professional continental teams.
"So
this time around there is enough opporturnity to win right
up to the seventh round," he said.
As of
now 16 teams had confirmed their participation in the Pro-Tour,
namely one in the Pro Tour, two professional continental teams,
10 others and three national teams.
Jamaluddin
said the charge for the fifth-level race from Muar, Johor
to Port Dickson was over 116.9km.
"Changes
have to be made following road repairs over a kilometre before
the finishing line making the race to end some 5km earlier
than the distance of 111.5km," he said.
LTdL this
year is being competed over seven levels beginning in Kota
Baharu (Kelantan) through Terengganu, Pahang, Johor, Negeri
Sembilan, Melaka, Putrajaya, Selangor and ending in Merdeka
Square, Kuala Lumpur.
The 16
teams are:
