More than 800 million viewers expected to watch the telecast of
Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2009 which will be held starting from
9th to 15th Feb through sports channel all over the world.
LTdL 2009 Chief of Operation, Datuk Naim
Mohamad said that LTdL will be telecast by ESPN, Starsports, Supersports,
Eurosports, Total Sports and more apart from the local broadcasts.
“We estimate that more than 800 million
cycling enthusiasts will be watching LTdL 2009. With that, sponsors
of LTdL will get better exposure and benefits of a wide telecast
all over the world,” he said.
He said that as far as sports tourism is
concerned, LTdL is one of the best platforms to show the international
community the beauty and uniqueness of interesting places in Malaysia.
Naim; who is the Deputy President of Malaysia
National Cycling Federation (MNCF) dan and also the Chief of Operation
of LTdL2009 said that all preparation for the event is smoothly
in progress.
“During the meeting of “National Level Organizing
Committee of LTdL 2009” chaired by Head Secretary of Ministry
of Youth and Sports (KBS) Datuk Mohd Yasin Mohd Salleh yesterday,
we have been briefed about the route, preparation and needs at
state level to ensure that the event is at par with Tour de France,
Giro de Italia dan Vuelta a Espana,” he said.
He said that the Committee Meeting yesterday,
was attended by state representatives, government bodies and agencies,
which is directly involved to help LTdL in organizing the event
in state level.
Naim had also mentioned in the meeting about
the LTdL2009 route launch previous 11th December 2008 by Deputy
Head Secretary of KBS, Datuk Mohid Mohamed on behalf of the Minister
of Youth and Sports, Datuk Ismail Sabri.
LTdL 2009 will be held from 9th to 15th Feb next year is a cycling
tour of seven-stage starting from Putrajaya to Senawang (Stage
1), Senawang to Melaka (Stage 2), Melaka to Melaka (Stage 3);
Melaka to Bandar Baru Bangi (Stage 4), Petaling Jaya to Genting
Highlands (Stage 5), Batang Kali to Shah Alam (Stage 6) and Kuala
Lumpur Criterium (Stage 7).
LTdL 2009 of Hors status, rated by the Union
Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is jointly organized by Ministry
of Youth and Sports (KBS) and MNCF.
