KUALA LUMPUR: Pro Tour outfit Garmin-Slipstream,
back for the Tour of Langkawi (LTdL) after a year’s absence,
are set to be one of the early favourites for the title.
The team will be here fresh from a successful
2008, with Christian Vande Velde wearing the pink jersey at the
Tour of Italy and finishing in the top 5 of the Tour de France.
“We are delighted that they have decided
to come back to Malaysia,” said LTdL chief operating officer
Datuk Naim Mohd.
Garmin may not be lining up their most famous
riders for the LTdL, which will be held from Feb 9-15, but they
will still be competitive with Australians Cameron Meyer and Chris
Sutton in their ranks.
Joining the two Australians will be Ricardo
Van der Velde.
The LTdL, which will feature 20 teams, will
begin at Putrajaya and finish with the traditional criterium race
at Dataran Merdeka.
